Abstract |
Biblical studies are characterized by an overwhelming proliferation of articles scattered through the Festschriften, periodicals, and collective publications of several disciplines - literary studies, theology, religious studies, and Ancient Near Eastern studies. To make the harvest of articles more accessible, the editors of the present volume - Richard Hess and David Tsumara - have collected 25 papers on practically all aspects of Gen 1-1 1 and themselves contributed three introductory surveys dealing with the history of interpretation, with comparing Genesis and Near Eastem stories of creation and flood, and comparative aspects of the genealogies. The authors of the papers here reprinted include W. G. Larnbert, A. R. Millard, Thorkild Jacobsen, P. D. Miller, I. M. Kikawada, A. Malamat, R. Borger, J. M. Sasson, David Clines and Phyllis Bird all of whom write in a more or less nontechnical style, so that the volume can actually be used by students. No exegetical library can afford not to have this volume which constitutes a convenient supplement to all comrnentaries on Gen 1-1 1. It is to be hoped that the publisher continues this valuable series! |
