Abstract

The article discusses the over one thousand individual dog burialsdiscovered in Persian period Ashkelon. It reviews various theoriesregarding the burials, deals with possible origins of the phenomenon,cites recent relevant material discovered in the southern Levant andsuggests two new theories concerning the dog burials at Ashkelon.
